7 Life Lessons in 2018

Good Day, Mavens!

Before you start to wonder, here is some scoop. This post is kind of late since we just entered February and yes, yes, yes, I’m very aware about my absence in my website. One of the main reasons were work. It piled and was overwhelmed in executing them (I will def discuss this on this post). Writing is one of my forms to escape the time however, during the absence, I didn’t feel like it because there were too much to think of in my mind. I took time off for a while to catchup with some movies, friends, and basically do nothing. I want to pour the best in my writing and I couldn’t do that if my mind was very occupied. I don’t wanna be one of those writers that even starting to hate the idea of writing because they were chased by some sort of deadlines whatsoever. In results, they went into a serious depression and etc. I don’t want that and my preventive nature was smart enough to not force anything. I started this website as my escape and to help others – to attain both things, I have to be the best version of myself, in such calm composure. Starting with my first 2019 post : D

Outter by BIYAN & Shirt by Jan Sober

2018 was simply, the craziest year of my life. TOO much happened in 2018 in the very best ways and all I can say that I’m grateful on things I have accomplished in 2018 and I let go things that just did not work in 2018. From getting a promotion at work, launching my own website after writing for almost 11 years, just a state of mind where I’m the happiest and felt most confident. During 2018, my happy state of mind didn’t come with glittered box with ribbon in front of my door. I have a few lessons where taught me to achieve a happier life. In addition to that, life lessons that you might want to want to dig deeper before you actually get to that phase. These lessons are lessons that I am happy to share. I went through them and thus, I knew how it felt. On Today’s post, I’d like to list down 7 life lessons that have taught me wonder, improved me as a person, and have found a home to the heart.

1. Self-control is not easy. But practice makes it perfect.

The definition of self-control varies but this term is pretty much easy to digest. You can define this to every literal thing. For me, it was indulgence. I spent A LOT that my previous years (thanks, promotion). At one time I became a little overwhelmed. For that point forward, I tried to hold back one step at a time. The result? Mesmerizing! When I’m able to control myself, I got to achieve the actual needs. Aside from indulgence, self–control helps me to become more organized and neat. I substituted my time for indulgence to do something I really need to be doing in the very first place. Remember, it is NOT easy. But practice them in your daily activities.

2. Always 2 sides: things you can change, and things you cannot change.

Sometimes, there are things that don’t go with what we want. But before you get upset, ask yourself, can I control this? If the answer is yes, then change it. Now, if the answer to your question is a no, don’t be upset. All I can say is, the very best thing to tackle your upset is to train your attitude towards it. Train to accept things we cant change and make the situation works.

3. Drama free feels SENSATIONAL

One of the biggest accomplishments I had in 2018 was staying out of drama and minding my own business. Staying drama free needed a lot of commitments. I am a very easy going and chill person, if I like it I go on with it, if I don’t like it, I’ll eliminate it. I think people should have this mindset and never ever afraid to say no. I let go a lot of baggage in 2018 that caused me stress, this includes staying away from people who create drama, or even some activities that can burden me, which eventually will trigger a lot of drama. Stay out of it. Even if drama loves you, kiss them goodbye!

4. One down, 2 grow back! (In a good way)

For those who are struggling with bad times, this one is for you. When you though life cant get better, it does. When I said that 2018 was the craziest of my life, and altho I said it was in a very good way, that doesn’t mean I didn’t experience struggles in 2018. I did have some bad moments. However, what I’ve learned not only from last year, but my entire life, good things will exceed the bad if you do good. Just always a grateful mindset wherever you are in life. You know, I couldn’t believe on how things worked out in 2018. Post unpleasant stage, good things just start to come over and over again. Trust me, it gets better!

5. Executing work is one thing, but managing people is on another level!

I was so humbled, happy, and over the moon last year because I got a promotion at work. I was prepared about my forthcoming responsibilities as my new roles took place. However, the biggest lesson that I have learned after one year in my managerial position is that, managing people is on another level…in a tough way. When I was still a staff, executing work seems hard but when you manage people, even sometimes logic does not fit into place. But, if you listen to your subordinates, you show flexibility but highlights discipline, this should run flawlessly.

6. Different approaches to self-love

In 2018, I took some other roads to pursue my self-love. Whenever I wish someone’s on his or her birthday, I always start with wishing them a good health. Health is a literal wealth. Keeping a good health and maintaining what it takes to be healthy is the first approach I have learned to be beautiful; eat mindfully, walk around for a simple cardio, consume less dairy, and etc. Take it one step at a time. Aside indulging myself with things I don’t need (sometimes) I indulge myself with something I need – I approached interior design. In 2018, some of my funds go to decorating my room, even just to change some new fluffy sheets, some organizational boxes to organize my skincare, and etc. I love my room so much – it’s small but its my sanctuary for everything. It’s something that I look forward to when I got off work and it has to be clean and comfortable. This sort of approach elevates my self-love and sanity tremendously – if you haven’t tried this one, this is your time!

7. Give, give, and give

Not only in 2018, but throughout years, giving is something that will never run out its magic. Help others in need even in the smallest action of deed, you will feel over the moon. You have already known about this but let me remind you again, if you do good, you will gain good. Period.

Out with the old, in with the new. But keep those that will make you survive for the rest of your life. Have a wonderful 2019, Mavens Xo

p.s. life is not elusive, you just need to know the how tos x
