Good Day, Mavens!

Let me start this off by giving my sincere apology for being away for almost a month. Work has been so crazy lately and I took some time off just to being unapologetically indulge and took care of myself by catching up with sleep, buying new stuff, and just explore more possibilities. And I personally recommend you to do that as well. I have talked this in my previous post too to always give yourself a deserving reward after undergoing such coaster. Despite the odds, I am back and ready to share more things that will help you to posh up your taste and cold press your soul!

OK! So during that one-month rejuvenation, I got inspired by a few things which also, have inspired the topic of my writings. We all know that fashion week has come to a close, if you have to ask, my favorite was indeed Valentino, Missoni, and Givenchy. However, during the same day I watched some of the footage of fashion week, I went to H&M – and I saw that they have some really good things to wear too…in a very affordable price. I thought to myself, why didn’t I make this post earlier? (insert a thinking emoji here). For as long as I can remember, going to fast fashion stores like H&M or Zara was the reason I started to develop my interest in fashion in the very beginning as well as how dressing yourself up can actually help your self-esteem.

Fashion and styling yourself shouldn’t come in very stressful ways. Ok you got confused in mix matching some outfit but when it comes to financing your style, you need to accommodate your taste with what you have now, financially. It should be very accessible to everyone.

You can save, you can work side jobs to have the pieces that you love but life is just way greater than just a piece of MARNI coat that you wear once in a blue moon.

But you still want to be chic? I hear you, and here is a solution! For those of you who keep their budget tight but love to be chic, this post is your answer! Being fashionable on a budget is something that is VERY possible and fun; I rely on this every single time because I also have some limits when splurging myself with fashion items. Of course fast fashion is going to be the definite answer when it comes to fashion on a budget. But my tips today are way beyond that. Not only that you have some affordable pieces, but how do you work with what you have and making it even chicer than a Chanel Haute Couture!

1. Buy Colors – Because Different Hues, are Fun and Elevate!

When you have a strict amount of budget to show up in designer pieces, then show up with colors! From the very beginning of me starting my blog, I always fond of colors. And to be able to have colorful pieces, you can get it literally anywhere – fast fashion stores or even in the traditional market. Mixing different colors in your whole look make you know fashion and how to style yourself, which makes you a fashionista! You are not boring and you are up for a challenge. And that is bigger than just mentioning some high end designer brands. I mean, that’s what I do with most of my look. I can wear a head to toe fast fashion and affordable pieces but since I play with the colors, it truly just elevates everything. Try color blocking, try mixing minimal colors with vibrant ones - it’s fun and you’ll see it to yourself how importance color is on your holistic look!

2. Do Your Research Right Prior to Shop: Hunt for SALE Items

Here is the thing, no one in this world hate the world sale nor discount. Since you are fastening the seat belt a little tight on your budget, it would be better if you become smart in spending, and be smart about it by doing research prior to buying. You can start by doing some research on things that you want to buy and alter it to the e-commerce/store’s sale season; seriously you guys, this is maybe probably why I have everything that I love in my closet since most of them, I bought it during the sale season. Because if you have the opportunity to buy something that you love in an affordable price, then why not?. This applies whether it’s a fast fashion items or designer items.

On the photo, i'm wearing a brooks brothers shirt and a COS sweater. You know what? because i did my research, I got the shirt on an 80% Sale and my sweater on a 60% Sale. What. A. Deal!

3. Aim for Statement Pieces

What are statement pieces? Statement pieces are those fashion items that are quirky, unique, and just very identifiable. It comes in different forms: it can be coats, shirt, necklace, and even bags. Why do I recommend this when it comes to elevated fashion on a budget? Statement pieces will differentiate you with others. You want to be fashion, you’ll get it. Not much people are brave enough to pull it off. Me personally, I love statement pieces that come in unique prints. And I love to layer my look! So it’s a t-shirt, then a blazer or bomber jacket and stuff. It’s fun you know! And there are A LOT that are affordable. Statement pieces don’t usually come in fast fashion store like H&M and Uniqlo because their stuff is mostly universal. You can find it on your local, indie brands. I have found A LOT of affordable yet fashion stuff in these brands. My favorite? I love local brands like Jan Sober, Tenue de Attire, Anders, and et. (p.s. not an ad nor it is sponsored).

On the photo, i'm wearing a Jan Sober's shirt (cost $ 20) and the outter, i got the handmade local fabric called Tenun from Kudus as a gift from a good friend of mine (shoutout to Oswin) and made it into an outter at my local tailor, and costed me only $30. Fashion? YES. Affordable? ABSOLUTELY!

4. Do NOT Overdo Your Look!

One of the biggest major things you can do to ruin your look is to overdo your look. Some affordable fashion may be very tempting to buy but that doesn’t mean you can put EVERYTHING that you buy in one look. I see a lot of people try to be fashion yet somehow, they look like they just came out outta a fight somewhere. Remember, simplicity prevails, and always stay effortless. Overdoing your look can also apply when you don’t dress based on what your body needs – don’t buy a 70% discounted shoes that are too small just because they are cute and etc. That is not cool!

5. Once in a While, Look Up on What is IN/Trending!

Why is this relevant? I know some of you hate trends and sometimes I do too. But if I’m covered in ego, I wouldn’t have bought my very comfortable Nike cortez, white Vans, and Adidas’ Stan Smith. They are very comfortable and I wear them almost everyday…and the most important thing: they are affordable! It is nice that once in a while you read up the magazines or online articles about what is currently in. Whether it’s white sneakers, lace, oversized coats, fringe sweater and etc. You might want to try it on and not all of them bad, they might be one of those products that you will treasure and re-purchase. Be open minded!

6. Carry Yourself Elegantly!

Last but CERTAINLY not least, is this! They way you carry yourself in public, determines what the world is going to see you as well as their judgment. Doesn’t matter what you wear, if you carry yourself right, you will glow. Remember what Anna Wintour once said “A t-shirt and jeans can be more fashionable than an Oscar de la Renta Gown!”. And remember, it’s always the guy or girl in that piece of fabric.
